Black Holes: Attractors for Intelligence?

چکیده
The Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligence (SETI) has so far been unsuccessful and needs additional methods. We introduce a two-dimensional metric for civilization development, using the Kardashev scale of energy increase and the Barrow scale of inward manipulation. To support Barrow's scale limit, we contend with energetic, societal, scientific, computational, and philosophical arguments that black holes are attractors for intelligence. An application of the two-dimensional metric leads to a simple, consistent and observable hypothesis to test the existence of very advanced civilizations. We suggest that some already observed X-Ray binaries may be unnoticed advanced civilizations, of type KII-BΩ. The appendix provides an argumentative map of the paper's main thesis.

New Attractors
We derive new algebraic attractor equations describing supersymmetric flux vacua of type IIB string theory. The first term in these equations, proportional to the gravitino mass (the central charge), is similar to the attractor equations for moduli fixed by the charges near the horizon of the supersymmetric black holes. The second term does not have a counterpart in the theory of black hole att...
متن کاملErice Lectures on Black Holes and Attractors
These lectures give an elementary introduction to the subject of four dimensional black holes (BHs) in supergravity and the Attractor Mechanism in the extremal case. Some thermodynamical properties are discussed and some relevant formulæ for the critical points of the BH effective potential are given. The case of MaxwellEinstein-axion-dilaton (super)gravity is discussed in detail. Analogies amo...
متن کاملNon-Supersymmetric Attractors in BI black holes
We study attractor mechanism in extremal black holes of Einstein-BornInfeld theories in four dimensions. We look for solutions which are regular near the horizon and show that they exist and enjoy the attractor behavior. The attractor point is determined by extremization of the effective potential at the horizon. This analysis includes the backreaction and supports the validity of non-supersymm...
متن کاملLectures∗ on Black Holes, Topological Strings and Quantum Attractors
In these lecture notes, we review some recent developments on the relation between the macroscopic entropy of four-dimensional BPS black holes and the microscopic counting of states, beyond the thermodynamical, large charge limit. After a brief overview of charged black holes in supergravity and string theory, we give an extensive introduction to special and very special geometry, attractor flo...

We derive and solve the black hole attractor conditions of N = 8 supergravity by finding the critical points of the corresponding black hole potential. This is achieved by a simple generalization of the symplectic structure of the special geometry to all extended supergravities with N > 2. There are two classes of solutions for regular black holes, one for 1/8 BPS ones and one for the non-BPS. ...
